π WRENCH - damp, sweaty, weighty, mutually assured destruction π
πΈ : @nosewisenw
π What's Wrench about?/ Where did the name come from/How did you set up?
Itβs nothing deep at all; Aneurin, our guitarist, & Ryan, our bassist, looked through a list of tools on Wikipedia & thought that one sounded the coolest π§
We knew each other at varying degrees for a few years, but hadnβt connected properly until our first rehearsal. Turned out everyone was sound & wanted to play some loud filthy bollocks, & we all hit it off from there. We met Dan when we pulled him from the wreckage of a car accident . . .

π How long after pulling some1 from the wreckage of a car accident do you ask them 2 drop some filthy beats with u? Or is that first order of busine$$?
He had no limbs when we pulled him out so we had to wait for them to grow back.
π My god the world needs more queer sludge. Why hasn't everyone else been cool enough to do what you're doing?
We donβt classify ourselves as a queer band, despite having several queer members. We tend to just stick to βbeer fuelled sludgeβ, but like to think we bring some queer representation to the scene.
π You've said beer fuelled sludge - have you experimented with any other intoxicants to diversify the influences on your music?
You a fed?
π yes.
π What inspires you 2 play music?
Itβs an outlet for us all, being able to let our anger & emotions out in a cathartic way. Thereβs a lot to be angry about these days & itβs great to be able to express that without just killing people.
We also just enjoy playing together; weβre all very close & enjoy every moment of every gig. Weβre not trying tp prove anything.
π Whatβs your writing process?
We only write in a rehearsal room. Our style of music requires the volume. The physical feeling is half the fun, & we donβt feel we get that same feeling writing at home. We write these songs for ourselves, it just happens that people sort of like them for some reason.
We try not to write too many songs for the sake of the sanity of others.
π What band would you love to cover one of your songs?/Who do you want to tour with?
Realistically weβd love a band like eyehategod or eastbourne goats black groove to cover one of our songs.
As far as touring goes, weβve heard JLS are on the road again so weβd love to get on a bill with those guys.
π Who are your main influences in music/life?
As a band our influences individually are so different, which lends to our sound.
Ronni is really into screamo & crust punk, & her vocal style is very reminiscent. Dan as a drummer is incredibly varied, & draws from so many genres, from hardcore to reggae. Aneurin is driven by a lot of those classic sludge bands, which lays a great baseline for the band. Ryan likes uk underground rap, dubstep & knob in his arse π

π Tell us about your aesthetic.
We try to let our music create the atmosphere for us. It feels damp, sweaty & weighty, almost like itβs sat on your chest.
We donβt dress any certain way, nor do we try to come across any kind of way. Weβre just naturally imposing people which lends to the stage presence.

π When you say 'designed to deafen' I take that quite literally as someone that has triumphantly had their ear blown out at a gender warfare show. Are we doing a shoutout for loop sponsorships so people can melt their brains responsibly at your shows?
Fuck no, if youβre going deaf, so are we. Itβs mutually assured destruction.
π When you're not doing band stuff what do you get up to?
Go to work, go to the pub. Standard shit.
Shockingly weβre not very interesting people.
π What 1 thing could everyone be doing to make the scene a better place?
Stop being sex offenders.
π Tell us about your latest release. What's the feeling to it/what's it about?
Our first single βCOASTINβ came out back in November, & itβs about booze cruising (which we do not advocate), despite the fact Ronni canβt drive. Itβs not a deep song at all but itβs sludgy & groovy so Fuckit π
π What's next for you lot?
EP, gigs, tour with JLS, another beer.
Catch Wrench at our upcoming show with JLS on May 6th π
